Did you know that early childhood education can happen in a home as well as a classroom?
The Child Center of NY offers three home-based Early Head Start programs. Our dedicated and skilled home visitors are the heart and soul of each of them. During National Home Visiting Week, we honor our home visitors for the extraordinary impact they have on supporting child development, strengthening maternal and child mental and physical health, and nourishing family relationships.
In this video, you can see 27-month-old Jennifer engaging in learning and exhibiting the joy, curiosity, and discovery that define early childhood education at The Child Center. You’ll also witness the beautiful connection between Home Visitor Maria Calderón Victoriano and Jennifer, and how Maria’s work supports not just a child, but an entire family.
“I do this work because I truly love helping children and their families,” Maria says. “Being able to support both a parent and their child’s development is incredibly rewarding. This family is a joy to work with—they are kind, engaged, and very supportive of their daughter, while also encouraging her independence. Jennifer is especially wonderful; she is curious, expressive, and always eager to share and connect. I genuinely enjoy every visit with them.”
What does Jennifer have to say about home visiting? “Burbujas (bubbles)!”
Check out Elvia’s Story to read Jennifer’s mom’s firsthand account of what home visiting through Early Head Start means to her and her family.
As Elvia’s Story and this video show, sometimes the most powerful learning begins at home, with someone who believes in you.
