SPOTLIGHT ON OUR STAFF

Sue Wyant
Chief External Affairs Officer

“It may sound obvious, but kids are our future. What we put into them today is what we are going to get out of them tomorrow. Sometimes it’s baby steps—change doesn’t happen overnight. But many lives will be transformed as a result of the work we do.“

WHAT EXCITES YOU ABOUT BEING PART OF THE LEADERSHIP TEAM AT THE CHILD CENTER OF NY?
At The Child Center, the mission of nurturing children and strengthening families at risk is powerful and I knew right away I wanted to be part of it...to help lead the effort to raise awareness and funds so that we can serve more kids. No child should have to wait for services that are so desperately needed.

WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO ACCOMPLISH AT THE CHILD CENTER?
It all goes back to awareness and raising the funds to reach more children with programs that intervene when they need it most. This year, we have a shortfall of $4 million between what we receive in government funding and program needs. I hope that my skills in fundraising, board recruitment and development can propel our agency forward to the next level.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR CAREER WORKING WITH NON-PROFITS.
My entire professional career has taken me to this agency. I have been involved in helping vulnerable and underserved populations for twenty-five years.

I most recently served as the Executive Director at The Catalog for Giving, an agency that helps small nonprofits that serve disadvantaged kids with capacity building. Previously I was the Senior VP for Development & Marketing at The Girl Scout Council of Greater New York. Many people don’t know that 40% of the young girls and teens that The Girl Scouts reach live at or below the poverty level.

I was also the Executive Director of The Vision Fund of America, which raises awareness and distributes funds to the visually impaired.

Sue Wyant is a lifetime New Yorker, who lives on Long Island, and has five grown sons. Her position at The Child Center is a newly created one that will help us grow the agency and widen our reach to underserved and at-risk children and families.
