Domestic Violence Consultant
Clinical Consultation Program with ACS
Job Description:
- Provide culturally competent clinical consultation to the child protective workers on cases dealing primarily with domestic violence but also taking cognizance of mental health and substance abuse factors on the cases to identify safety risks, recommendations, and referrals in child abuse and neglect cases involving domestic violence and/or mental health issues
- Prepare timely and comprehensive reports for each consultation to assess, explore, and make recommendations, and to make referrals and identify safety and risk issues
- Do family assessments and individual assessments to assess clinical issues from strengths perspective as well as safety and risk perspective
- Participate in child safety conferences and family meetings and provide clinical inputs and engage resistant clients in family meetings and safety conferences
- Participate in multidisciplinary conferences and provide managerial level inputs to enhance collaborations with other providers, facilitate case transitions within the agency, network and build relationships across host agency at multiple levels
- Make appropriate referrals for mental health, domestic violence and substance abuse services
- Conduct enhanced trainings for new workers pertaining to domestic violence and sometimes mental health and specialty training in areas like safety planning, engaging batterers, engaging victims, etc.
- Prepare specialized curriculum on several topics in the areas pertaining to domestic violence focused on child protection
- Implementing trainings for ACS staff on:
- Exposure to Domestic Violence
- Early Intervention and Exposure to Domestic Violence
- Domestic Violence-Cycle & Patterns of Abuse, Power and Control
- Abusive Tactics Used by Abusive Parents
- Correlation of Exposure to DV and Mental Health
- Barriers to Leaving Abusive Relationships
- Safety Planning for Survivors and Children
- Domestic Violence Policy and Documentation
- Accountability and Fathering in the context of Domestic Violence
- Attending conferences and collaborating with children’s services to identify service needs and to reduce risks in families
Position requires a master’s level degree; preferably in social work with relevant experience working with clients/families impacted by domestic violence. Good writing skills required.

Bilingual Spanish Infant Toddler/Preschool Home Visitor - Permanent Position
The Child Center of New York has several openings in its Early Childhood Programs for Infant/Toddler/Preschool Home Visitors in its Home-Base Early/Head Start Programs.
Responsibilities: Conduct weekly home-visits to 12 families to support and strengthen the relationships between young children and their parents; provide parents with opportunities to learn how to promote their child’s optimal development. Conduct biweekly parent-child socialization groups which are aimed at providing parents with opportunities to get feedback from staff and other parents about their child’s interests, strengths, needs and resources: observe their child responding to other children and adults, and share and learn from other parents about the joys and challenges of parenting. Helping families work toward their goals either directly or through referrals to other community agencies.
Qualifications: Child Development Associate or an Associates Degree with some concentration on early childhood/child development working towards specified degree. Experience working with children birth – 5 and low income immigrant families a plus. MUST SPEAK SPANISH as the majority of families enrolled in program are monolingual Spanish.
Substitute Teachers needed for center-based programs.
