Teacher for our Head Start Program

Locations: Woodside, Queens and Upper Westside, Manhattan.

Responsibilities: Under the direct supervision of the site’s Education Director, the Lead Teacher’s responsibilities include the following:

Curriculum and Instruction

  • Promote high-quality teaching and learning in the classroom that leads to children’s school readiness.
  • Plan and establish an environment in which children develop trusting and accepting relationships with adults and peers that foster growth and development.
  • Design and execute a developmentally appropriate and integrated curriculum which provides opportunities for children’s meaningful exploration.

Record Maintenance, Screening and Assessment

  • Responsible for maintaining accurate educational records and portfolios on each child.
  • Responsible for implementing child observations, screening and assessments. This includes ensuring that all children receive a developmental and behavioral screen within the first 45 days of school and assessment at three time points over the course of the year (November, February and May).

Family Engagement

  • Encourage parent involvement and communication through a variety of methods (e.g., newsletters, bulletin boards, classroom events, center-wide activities, and “open-door” policy).
  • Facilitate meetings with families when there are outstanding developmental or behavioral issues with children.
  • Depending on the Center and the funding requirements, participate in home visits, Parent/Teacher conferences, Open Houses, and/or Family Days.

Professional Development

  • Participate in offered trainings, workshops, in-service days, and/or all-staff conferences.
  • Maintain certification requirements and proof of attendance in professional activities.
  • Support the growth of the center including participating in program-wide goal setting and individual and program self-assessment.
  • Oversee additional teachers and volunteers in the classroom.

Health and Safety

  • Adhere to all state and city licensing requirements, teacher child/ratios, and CPR/first aid certification.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy environment for children.

Qualifications: The Lead Teacher must have qualifications that satisfy Federal Head Start requirements, the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Article 47 regulations, and Universal Preschool Guidelines.

Required Credentials:

  1. A master’s or baccalaureate degree in early childhood education or related field of study and
  2. A current, valid teaching certificate issued by the New York State Education Department. This may include early childhood (Birth-Grade 2); Nursery, Kindergarten and Grades 1-6; or Prekindergarten – Grade 6 certification.

Other Qualifications:

  • Bilingual preferred but not necessary.
  • Experience working with preschooler and children with Special Needs.
  • Dedicated, excited and passionate about teaching and learning with young children.
  • Professional approach.
  • Resourceful & dependable.
  • Effective communication skills.

Bilingual Spanish Home Visitor

The Child Center of New York has an opening for a full-time home visitor in its home-based program in Corona/Flushing.

Responsibilities: The home visitor is under the direct supervision of the Education/Program Director. The home visitor is responsible for conducting weekly home visits with a caseload of twelve families in the Corona area of Queens. The home visitor is responsible for conducting two socializations a month with the twelve families in his/her caseload. Responsibilities include:

  • Partnering with and supporting parents in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate experiences for their children that foster physical, social, emotional and intellectual growth.
  • Attaining knowledge of each child through observations, assessments, interactions and ongoing records to develop an appropriate program for individual growth, identifying possible problems and accomplishments and bringing them to the attention of the parent and appropriate staff.
  • Promoting and maintaining a positive relationship with parents and supporting them with their goals for growth.
  • Maintaining recording keeping that includes weekly planning forms, socialization progress notes, observation notes, documentation trackers, screening tools, assessment forms, contact notes and attendance forms.

Qualifications: Minimum Qualification: Child Development Associate or an Associates Degree with some concentration on early childhood/child development

Outreach and Marketing Manager

We are currently seeking a creative, innovated, organized, and self-motivated individual to serve as the Outreach and Marketing Manager in our fast paced environment. The right candidate needs to be able to clearly identify and set actionable sales and marketing strategies to drive referrals with anyone who comes into contact with at risk youth and adults. This will include marketing our continuum of services to those individuals and families in need of treatment, aftercare and associated systems of support. Market services to cultivate new, and grow existing, strategic relationships at events, functions, organizations and other appropriate entities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Degree in related field of study or comparable work experience.
  • At least 5 years of outside sales/marketing experience.
  • Understanding of behavioral health as a discipline.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills (communication and presentation skills) for marketing to external constituents and clinical teams; responding to questions/complaints; and building trust/interest in use of The Child Center of NY programs.
  • Proficiency in MS Office products.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, time management and project management skills.
  • Bilingual preferred.

Travel Requirements: Local travel required.

Student Intern Position for Premier Kitchen

The Child Center of NY is seeking for an Unpaid Student Intern for our premier kitchen in Queens. We are the premier CACFP/Head Start nonprofit child service agency in Queens. This Internship WILL LEAD to full time position at our new CACFP building, just a few minutes from Citi Field.

Interns are required to work 25 hours a week and will work under an Executive Chef and a very talented team.

Nurse Practitioner (Chinese or Spanish Speaking)

The Child Center of NY is currently seeking a Part Time Nurse Practitioner.

The position requires that the Nurse Practitioner work in collaboration with and under the direction of a psychiatrist. The Nurse Practitioner shall be responsible for performing comprehensive psychiatric assessments and diagnostics, and medical reviews.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Program
  • Graduate of an accredited master's degree program as a Nurse
  • Practitioner with current New York State licensure
  • Psychiatric experience is required
  • Extensive training and/or experience in mental health and substance abuse treatment.
  • Knowledge of insurance/managed care processes is required.
  • Bilingual abilities Chinese or Spanish required.

Fee for Service Social Workers - Spanish or Chinese Speaking Preferred
