Writer/Communications Specialist
This is a freelance opportunity to work on a broad range of communications and development projects at The Child Center of NY—a 60-year-old nonprofit whose mission is to help at-risk children and youth succeed in life. Position is 14 hours a week and ongoing. The job will require approximately one day in the office in Queens (Woodside location, 20 minutes on #7 from Manhattan).
Responsibilities: Write and/or co-write a variety of communications and fundraising materials, including, newsletters, annual reports, end-of-year appeal; social media posts, website updates, press releases, grant proposals, and progress reports. Research data about New York City’s at-risk children and the economic, educational, and social emotional issues they face. Interview/communicate with frontline social work staff as needed to gather case studies of children helped and program outcomes.
Qualifications: Must be a top-flight wordsmith who can produce clear and compelling prose. Ability to research and report, then produce a dramatic story or argument about interventions that help children and families in poverty. Must be able to analyze basic metrics and statistics. Should be at ease and willing to interview and gather information by telephone, in person, and online. Excel and Word skills essential. Journalist or nonprofit writing background welcome.
Preferred: Passion for the wellbeing of children and youth in New York City. Experience working with designers/print production, ideal. Experience with Constant Contact.

Interns are required to work 25 hours a week and will work under an Executive Chef and a very talented team.

Nurse Practitioner (Chinese or Spanish Speaking)
The Child Center of NY is currently seeking a Part Time Nurse Practitioner.
The position requires that the Nurse Practitioner work in collaboration with and under the direction of a psychiatrist. The Nurse Practitioner shall be responsible for performing comprehensive psychiatric assessments and diagnostics, and medical reviews.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Program
- Graduate of an accredited master's degree program as a Nurse
- Practitioner with current New York State licensure
- Psychiatric experience is required
- Extensive training and/or experience in mental health and substance abuse treatment.
- Knowledge of insurance/managed care processes is required.
- Bilingual abilities Chinese or Spanish required.

Fee for Service Social Workers - Spanish or Chinese Speaking Preferred
The Child Center of NY is seeking Fee for Service Social Worker to work up to 14 hours per week (Saturday and/or evenings) in various licensed clinics located in Queens. If more than 10 hours worked, their would be a licensure supervision provided.
